چکیده

2.4 GHz-band wireless LAN system based on a new standard, IEEE 802.11g, has been taking a great attention as it provides the attractive features such as low cost, unlicensed spectrum use, and high speed transmission rate up to 54 Mbps. However, 2.4 GHz radio frequency band is also used for Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) devices such as microwave ovens, and the man-made noise leaked from ISM devices is known to be one of the major causes of the degradation in the performance of wireless communications systems using 2.4 GHz radio frequency band. In this paper, we evaluate the bit error rate (BER) and the throughput performances of WLAN system based on IEEE 802.11g standard (IEEE 802.11g WLAN system) under man-made noise environment, and discuss the effect of man-made noise on the performance of IEEE 802.11g WLAN system. Numerical results show that the BER and the throughput performances of IEEE 802.11g WLAN system are much degraded by the influence of manmade noise. key words: IEEE 802.11g, wireless LAN system, 2.4 GHz-band, ISM devices, man-made noise, OFDM

Enhanced Protection Mechanism for Wireless LAN to Reduce Protocol Overhead

The Wireless LANs (WLAN) have become more popular and commonly used these days. WLAN links many devices using some wireless methods like OFDM, Spread Spectrum etc. There are several IEEE Standards exists for Wireless LAN, among them IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g are most popular types of IEEE 802.11. These two standards are “Wi-Fi” certified and operate at 2.4GHz band. The 802.11g supports high...

An IEEE 802.11 g simulation model with extended debug capabilities

IEEE 802.11g has become the de facto standard for Wireless LAN. Most of the 802.11g functionality is implemented in hardware or firmware; modifying or extending such communication protocols is a difficult task. In this paper, we present modifications to the Omnet++ simulation environment to support an accurate IEEE 802.11g MAC and PHY simulation model. A solution for debugging the proposed mode...

A MAC Throughput in the Wireless LAN

Over the past few years, mobile networks have emerged as a promising approach for future mobile IP applications. With limited frequency resources, designing an effective MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol is a hot challenge. IEEE 802.11b/g/a/n networks are currently the most popular wireless LAN products on the market [1]. The conventional IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g/a specification provide up t...
